macario chavez rsMacario C. Chavez, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Santa Clara, New Mexico on Friday, July 20, 2018.

He was born on January 12, 1932 in Santa Rita, New Mexico to Porfirio Chavez and Aldaberta.

Macario was a dedicated advocate to the "National Right to Read Foundation." He strongly believed and advocated that "phonics" is key for children to read proficiently.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years Margaret G. Chavez, his daughter, Mary Ann Sedillo, Alfred, her husband, three grandsons, Mack, Leo (Alexa), James (Krisana) Trujillo. Six great-grandchildren, Brendan, Mackenzie, Amaya, Ahlyia, Brayden and Marcus. His sister Carmen Swann (Charles) of Morgan Hill, California; his brother, Louis Chavez of Sandia Park, New Mexico, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Porfirio and Aldaberta; his daughter, Patricia Chavez; his siblings, Martina Lardizabal, Nicholas Chavez, Gregorio Chavez, Eulalia Hernandez, Socorro Garza, Socorrito Chavez, and Gabino Gallardo.

A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at 10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Deacon Art Gutierrez officiating. Following the service will be inurnment at Memory Lane Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mack, Leo, James, Brendan, Brayden, and Marcus Trujillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mackenzie, Amaya, and Ahlyia Trujillo, Louis Chavez, and all nieces and nephews.

Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapels "Trusted care for the ones you love" ~ 575-537-0777.
