marlene mattie rsOf Ft. Lauderdale, FL, having lived in South Texas and then in Silver City, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2018 surrounded by family.

She is survived and will be missed by her son, Edward and wife Virginia, her daughter Donna and husband James Stapleton and her nine granddaughters Amber, Savannah, Sarah, Megan, Julie, Madison, Kara, Meredith and Madelyn. In addition, Marlene is survived by her two sisters, Donna Kubala and Gloria Couch. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Brown, her husband, Paul Mattie, and her two children, Michael Paul Mattie and Jennifer Lynn Mattie.

Marlene was a caring, compassionate person and always had a smile on her face. She was always happy to see you and always made you feel at home. From banking to ranching, Marlene enjoyed every part of her professional life, but her real passion was her granddaughters and family. Her ultimate life goal was to "live long enough to see all her granddaughters graduate from college and pick a career". She was able to see several of her granddaughters graduate from school before God called her home. She will always be missed but her spirit will live on in her granddaughters' hearts and dreams. Her entire family truly loved her and will miss her every day. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, mother in law, aunt, sister, and friend.

In addition, Marlene was an avid animal lover. She routinely volunteered at local animal shelters and had livestock that included pigs, cattle, horses, chickens, roosters and several dogs. All her pets were rescue animals. This was a cause she strongly supported. She always advocated for the protection and care of all animals.

Those wishing to honor her life can donate in her name to the Humane Society, 3050 S. Cougar Way Silver City, NM. 88061. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
