don connorDon "Mike" Conner, of Hurley New Mexico, passed away on Sept. 1, at Millie's Assisted Living Center in Silver City New Mexico, at the age of 87. Mr. Conner was born to Don and Thelma Conner in Grainola, Oklahoma on Jan.5, 1931. He was a graduate of Grainola High school class of 1948. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict as a Corporal, stationed in Germany and was honorably discharged in March of 1954. He was a graduate of the Oklahoma State University School of Technical training in drafting, class of 1961. He was a proud member of the Osage Nation.

Mr. Conner had a passion for his crafting rifle and shot gun stocks, he was ranked number five in the nation "Albq. Journal". In his retirement his favorite pastimes were gardening and cooking for his family. He won many first and second place ribbons at the Grant County Fair for his produce and canning. He made lifelong friends where ever he lived. He and his family lived in Grainola, O.K., Okmulgee, O.K, Albuquerque, N.M., Tijeras N.M., Juneau, A.K., Lawrence, K.S. settling in their retirement in Hurley, N.M. in 1987.

Mr. Connor was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 47 years, Joanne R. Conner, eldest son Wayne H. Conner, his sisters Chole Buffington, and Ida Roberts. He is survived by his brother Dr. Joe and his wife Dr. Carol Conner of Fairfax, O.K.; his son Sam and his wife Nancy Conner of Houston, TX; son Michael "Cole" and his wife Jocelyn Conner of Silver City, N.M.; his daughter-in-law, Judy Conner of Albuquerque, N.M; seven grandchildren: Cameron Conner, Micheal Joe Conner and his wife Melissa of Albuquerque N.M., Samantha Conner of Albuquerque, N.M., Madeline Conner of Houston, T.X., Veronika Conner, Jeremiah Conner and Nathaniel Conner of Silver City, N.M.; five great grandchildren: Sara Conner of Mountain Home, AR., Michael David Conner, Jayda Lucero, Juliane Sierra, Jase Cardenas of Albuquerque , N.M.
