20180918 jose jaurequiJose V. Jaurequi, 86, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Monday, September 17, 2018 at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born May 15, 1932 in Hurley, NM to Juan Jaurequi and Luisa Villalobos. Jose "Sejo" was for the biggest part of his life a devout family man. Sejo’s most important facet in his life was God, family, and his art. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his family. Joe was well known for his artwork, sand paintings, and his sculptures. During his last years he undertook the "Santero" art form which was very evident in his work. All his family is very proud of his popular artwork.

He is survived by his loving wife, Consuelo Jaurequi; two sons, Ruben Jaurequi (Denise) of Arenas Valley, NM; and Joe Parra (Cecilia) of Santa Clara, NM; two daughters, Rosie Salas (Ventura) of Rio Rancho, NM; and Sandra Ortiz (Samuel) of Alamogordo, NM; two brothers, Alex "Guerro" Jaurequi (Patty) of Silver City, NM; and Frankie Jaurequi (Maxine) of Las Cruces, NM; two sisters, Teresa Cervantes of Tucson, AZ; and Mary Archuleta (Arthur) of Silver City, NM; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Joe and Sammy Jaurequi; two brothers, Ignacio "Nacho" Jaurequi (Celia); and Juan Jaurequi (Mary Ann); two sisters, Carmen Quintanar (Alfredo "Chapo"); and Anita Madrid (Vital).

Visitation will be Thursday, September 20th from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary being recited at 6pm by April Salas Villacaña. Pallbearers will be Ventura Salas Jr., Danny Ortiz, Ruben Jaurequi Jr., Ruben Jaurequi III, Weston West, Josiah Legarda, and Dominic Salas. Honorary pallbearers will be extended family members.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 21st at 10am at St. Vincent Catholic Church with Father Arthur McDonald officiating. Interment will follow at St. Vincent Catholic Cemetery.
