reed 01Janice Janet (York) Reed 79, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2018 at Sunset Vista Assisted Living in Silver City, NM. Janice fought a tremendous battle with Alzheimer Disease. Janice was born August 11, 1939 to Marion LeRoy York and Helen Patricia (Swope) York in Santa Rita, NM. Janice is survived by her daughter, Lori Nell Reed and her husband Norman H. Work of Silver City, sister Clarice Bagwell of Orchard City, Colorado, her lifelong friend since childhood, Jan Traynor of Mule Creek, NM., sisters in-law, Beth Reed and Peggy Knapp, and nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clyde Reed, her sister Marion Maxine York Morgan, son Clyde Shane Reed and grandson J.D. Reed, and daughter in-law Rita Reed.

Janice worked for American National Bank and retired from Community Public Service which is now PNM (Public Service Co of New Mexico). Janice was an excellent cook and kept an immaculate house. She loved to go for walks and was famous for her Mexican food, especially her green chile. Janice enjoyed having family and friends get together to eat and visit. Janice was a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother. She loved her family unconditionally.

She was always up for a good time, she loved to dance, listen to good music and laugh. She was very fond of Elvis Presley. When Elvis Presley died she called Lori Nell, who was 16 and working at R.O. Schmidt Jewelry Store, and told her Elvis had died and she just couldn’t believe he was gone. On another occasion, Janice was driving from Cliff to Silver City to help Lori Nell move one Saturday morning and a State Policeman by the name of Michael Carlos Avilucea pulled Janice over for speeding and he asked Janice what the hurry was and she promptly said “Well, I am on my way to help my daughter move and Elvis came on the radio and I started singing along with him, I just love Elvis” and, believe it or not, Mike Avilucea let her go as he laughed and walked back to his patrol car.

Lori Nell asked that you please remember Janice for her love of life, her humor, her laugh and all the good memories that you can hold dear to your hearts, as this is the way she would want her memory to live on in your hearts and she knows she was loved and cared for by each one of you.
