Leonard “Lenny” Joe Herrera, 70, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Friday, December 21, 2018 at NM Veteran’s Center in T or C, NM. He was born May 2, 1948 in Woodland, CA to Leonard and Enedina (Nadine) Herrera. He was employed by the Cobre Schools as a custodian at Bayard Elementary.  He was avid fan of the San Francisco 49’s and San Francisco Giants. He is survived by one son, Matthew Herrera and companion Raelyn of Silver City; one daughter, Nadine Herrera of Bayard; three brothers, Johnny Lucero and wife Donna, Michael Herrera and wife Irma, and Ricky Herrera; one sister, Debbie Dominguez and husband German; aunts, Connie Molina and husband Robert, and Amelia Beach and husband Dave, a special god-daughter Monica Helton. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Nancy VanVliet, paternal grandparents, Petronilo and Leonor Herrera; maternal grandparents, Pedro and Amelia Herrera.

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 2 from 10:30 - 11 a.m. at Infant Jesus Shrine with the holy rosary being recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez to begin at 11am. The funeral liturgy will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Mike Williams officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow with full military honors at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Julian Jacquez, Steven Jacquez, Charlie Helton, Luis Lopez Jr., Robbie Molina, Javier Martinez. Honorary pallbearers will be Eduardo Martinez, David Martinez, co-worker and friend, Gilbert “Boyce” Rodriguez and the rest of his family.
