holguin 01Omar V. Holguin, 61, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Tuesday, January 1, 2019 in Deming, NM. He was born September 8, 1957 in Silver City, to Guillermo M. Holguin and Antonina Vega Holguin.  Omar was a member of The Illusion Band for over ten years. Music was his life. Omar was a teacher at both Silver and Cobre Schools. He interacted with his students and made them engage with the music. He went on tour with the Ambassadors in the 70’s. He also played with Tri-city Buzzards and Latin Image when he toured overseas in the 80’s. He carried his guitar with him everywhere he went. Omar was always remembered playing with the family at family gatherings while all the rest of the family would sing along. He was a quiet man; but will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by one daughter, Nina Holguin of San Antonio, TX; his significant other, Susie Quintanilla and her son Rory Quintanilla originally from San Antonio, TX; two brothers, Guillermo Holguin of Deming, NM; Ismael “Smiley” Holguin of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Yolanda Quintana and husband Leroy of La Jolla, CA; Irma Jacquez of Las Cruces, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 12 at 12 noon at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating. Concluding service and inurnment will follow at Memory Lane cemetery where he will be laid to rest. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
