Barbara Di Geronimo Fisher Du Sablon passed away the 29th of January after a year long battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Bobbie was known in the Silver City area as the Bird Lady since she rescued and rehabilitated any bird (including raptors) that was in trouble and was often seen walking around with one of her own birds on her arm.

She is survived by her husband Paul of Hanover, NM, her sisters Andy and Denny of Akron, Ohio and her brother Patrick of Vancouver, Washington along with many nieces nephews and cousins in Ohio. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Akron and worked for the phone company in Akron and Fontana California. She received her Bachelor’s degree while in Fontana and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii, Hilo and worked in Hawaii for 15 years before retiring to New Mexico. Bobbie was a 38 year member of A.A. and one of the leaders of TOPS in Silver City. Bobbie and Paul participated in the Senior Olympics where they each won several gold and silver medals in shooting competitions.

During the final months of her life, one of her pleasures was beating her husband and friend, Libby Beck, at the card game Hand and Foot. It was seldom that either of them won a game.

She was cremated and a memorial will be held for her in Akron Ohio as she wished.
