mesa 01Mary H. Mesa, 97 went for eternal ret in the arms of Christ Wednesday, May 8, 2019. She was born November 30, 1921 in Magdalena, NM to Julian Hill and Delfina Zamora Hill. Mary was the founding mother of the recipes for Jalisco Café. Mary was the matriarch of the family. She was a very strong and religious woman. She lost her mom at 11 years old and she went on raise her six siblings. She worked all her life. As a teen she was a live-in housekeeper, cook, and nanny, this is where she learned to cook her great American dishes, especially her baked goods, like her breads and cinnamon rolls. Candelaria Mesa taught her how to cook her famous Mexican food, although she created many of her own plates and her sopaipillas. There was always coffee and food on her stove that she shared with anyone that came to her home. With the help of God she raised six children whom she brought up to love God. All the family was inspired by her spirituality and her faith. Mary was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.

mesa 02She is survived by three sons, George Mesa and wife Cecilia of Silver City; Ray Meza and wife Goya of Tucson, AZ; Carlos Mesa of Silver City; two daughters, Dora Mesa Estrada and husband Dave of Mesa, AZ; Tillie Mesa Aguilar of Silver City; eleven grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George V. Mesa; three sons, Jose Ruben, Maximiliano, and Robert Mesa; her granddaughter, Melaine Mesa; three great grandchildren, Emmanuel Meza, Esai, and Echo Laws; four sisters, Adelina Lopez, Betty Medina, Ramona Montoya and Dolores (Lola) and Mariyita Hill; two brothers, Paul and Florencio Hill. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 15 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary being recited by Dr. Gilbert Arizaga to begin at 6pm. On Thursday, May 16 at 10am the funeral mass will be celebrated at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with Father Andrew from the Guadalupe Monastery officiating. Concluding service and interment willfollow at Memory Lane Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Mesa, Alejandro Aguilar, Bo Laws, Brian Haley, Dustin Estrada, Ray Jr Meza, Jose Luis Meza and Jorge Meza.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Joshua Estrada, Daniel Estrada, Diane Haley, Tanya Aguilar Laws, Maria Elena Miranda, and Veronica Valdez.
