venegasSocorro "Sookie" Venegas went to be with the Lord. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at NM State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences, NM surrounded by her family. Socorro was born in Santa Rita NM, on December 10, 1925 to Manuel Corral and Tomasita Corral, growing up Socorro helped with the family business, a fruteria selling candies and supplies. She went on to work for Kennecott for 35 years, Socorro was an amazing woman; she was loved by everyone who met her. She and Ernest “Ernie”, her husband of 70 years were married September 8, 1946. Together they bought the Hurley Bar and built it up to one of the most popular bars in Grant County.

Together they had three children Dolores and her husband Bruce Sandler, Ernest and his wife Pricilla, and Randy and his wife Leticia, 7 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. They retired 30 years ago, to spend time with their family. She loved fishing, hunting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest and her daughter Dolores Sandler of Huntington Beach, California She will be greatly missed by many and never be forgotten. A Graveside service will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7 at 2pm Fort Bayard National
