wilson03Dr. John Stewart Wilson, age 88, passed away at his home in Silver City, New Mexico on September 9, 2019.  A retired general surgeon, who lovingly cared for the citizens of Grant County for many years, Dr. Wilson was also an avid runner, completing 9 marathons; cycler, one trip started in San Diego and finished in NYC; mountain climber, reaching the summit of many famous peaks in the world; and dedicated bird watcher. Prior to moving to Silver City in 1964, Dr. Wilson served 4 years as a Captain and surgeon in the U.S. Army, stationed in La Rochelle, France and Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Dr. Wilson earned his undergraduate degree at Trinity College in Hartford, CT; earned his medical degree at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons in NYC; served his internship and general residency as Chief Resident at Bellevue Hospital in New York City; and did his surgical residency at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut.  

Dr. Wilson is survived by his son Maclean Wilson of Silver City, his daughter Vanessa Wilson and grandson Brandon Wilson of New York City, and his dear friend and loving companion of 17 years, Barbara Smith of Silver City. Dr. Wilson was pre-deceased by the love of his life and wife of 46 years, Imogen Falley Wilson, and his adult son Stewart Wilson. A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Monday, September 16th at Terrazas Funeral Chapels.
