Yolanda Leyba Schmelzla, 86, of Silver City passed away on August 10, 2023 at home (her birthday). A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday August 21, 2023 at 9:00 am. Concluding services and burial will follow at 11:00 am at Fort Bayard National Cemetery.

Yolanda was born August 10, 1937 to the late Juan Leyba & Juana Sandoval Leyba. She is survived by her daughters, Lorraine Lopez of Crossville, Tenn and Yvonne Lopez of Las Cruces, NM; one sister, Desi Pena of N. Hurley, NM; six grandchildren, Tamara Hull (Tyrus) of Albuquerque, NM, Malcolm Ullery (Paula) of Silver City, NM, Nicola Ullery (Jesse) of Las Cruces, NM, Avery Nunn of Las Cruces, NM, Tarra Rice of Tampa Bay Fl,  Joseph Rice of Crossville, Tenn; eight great-grandchildren, Malcolm II and Makayla Ullery of Silver City, NM; Xavier Nunn of Las Cruces, NM, Charles Hull of Albuquerque, NM, Timothy Lee and Olivia Ann Cooper of Tampa Bay Fl, Legend Jude Rico of Las Cruces, NM, Annaliza Nunn of Silver City, NM, and numerous nieces & nephews.

Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents Juan & Juana Leyba, spouse Rodger Schmelzla; brothers, Albert Leyba, Juan Leyba; sisters Antonia Perez, Geneva Pena, Josie Dominguez.
