gary riwseIt is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of Gary Monroe Rowse, 84, who passed away August 18, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Gary was born in Genesee County Michigan to Duane & Viva Rowse (nee Monroe). He graduated from Utley High and attended WNMU participating in several sports and earning a degree in education. It was there that he met and married Patricia Hunter, the mother of his 5 children.

After graduation, Gary taught industrial education and coached football, basketball, and track at the high school level in Michigan before starting a career in mining. He worked at Kennecott Copper in Silver City NM before relocating his family to Salem MO for a career advancement opportunity with Amax Mining.

Gary enjoyed jeeping with friends, searching for arrowheads and pottery, and exploring old mines in the Southwest. His love for hand-on work led him to his garage where he spent countless hours on home improvement projects, building and tinkering with cars, and various other projects.

After retirement, Gary bought a ranch in Ellington MO where he had horses, chickens, ducks, and countless dogs. It was his happy place. Fishing held a special place in his heart, he loved spending time on the water in his boat. After a brief stays in Thayer MO and Silver City NM, he moved to Flippin AK to live on the river.

Gary is survived by his children, Michael Rowse (Linda), Sherry Olden (John) of Park City UT, Corby Short (Arlen) Apex NC, Amye Rowse and Alison Rowse (Salt Lake City UT). His grandchildren, Jocelyn Rowse, Marissa Rowse, Macy Olden, Ryder Olden, Madison Short, Chelsea Lynch (Adrian), Drew Rowse, and great granddaughter, Ava Monroe Wooten. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Sharon Brannon (Marv) and Joann Wismer. Arrangements at Roller Burns Funeral Home in Yellville are private.
