Martha Margit Hammerstein, born on July 22, 1923 in Pajala, Sweden, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2013 at Mimbres Memorial Nursing Home.

Margit was preceded in death by her parents, Karl Oscar and Hilja-Kaiser Waara, and, in 1997, by her husband John Hammerstein.

Margit is survived by her companion, Gene Boss of Deming; her three children, John Hammerstein (Joyce) of Virginia Beach, VA; Carolyn Taverna (Larry) of Naperville, IL; and Robert Hammerstein (Lisa) of New Milford, NJ; as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, with two more expected this summer. She is also survived by a sister and brother in California and 3 brothers in Sweden.

Margit and John retired from Hillsdale, NJ to Deming, NM in1974. Margit was active at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Deming.

A memorial service will be held for Margit at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The American Cancer Society and Redeemer Lutheran Church.
