Nicholas Christopher Arzate, 33, a resident of Orange, CA

Nicholas Christopher Arzate, 33, of Orange, California passed away on Monday, December 19, 2022 at Chapman Global Medical Center in Orange. Cremation was entrusted to the care of Fairhaven Mortuary in California. Memorial Services will take place under the care of Baca's Funeral Chapels.

The Holy Rosary will be recited at ten o'clock in the morning on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at Baca's Funeral Chapel in Silver City. A Memorial Service will take place immediately thereafter. Concluding Services and Inurnment will follow at Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery in Silver City.

Honorary Pallbearers are Austen Saxton, Devon Arzate, Ryan Arzate, Joseph Peralta, Anthony Quintana, Mickey Grado, Carlos Grado, Adrian and Jonathan Liera, and Kevin Mundia.

Jack Leroy, 86, a resident of Silver City, NM

leroy 02Jack A. LeRoy, 86, a resident of Silver City, NM entered eternal rest Monday, May 15, 2023 at Gila Regional Medical Center. He was born February 17, 1937 in Owasso, Michigan to Paul A. LeRoy and Mary Ellis LeRoy.

Jack was a lover of sports. He grew up playing baseball, where he excelled. Out of high school, he was recruited to play baseball for the Detroit Tigers. Instead, he started a family and followed his dream of becoming an educator. Jack attended Arizona State University, where he received his Bachelor, Master, and Doctorate Degrees in education. He taught for 34 years; mainly in elementary, but also taught education classes at Indiana University Kokomo (IUK), Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Florida, and Western University in Silver City, New Mexico. He was a highly respected educator. He was a recipient of the Golden Apple Award and also received Professor of the Year from IUK. Below are quotes from his former students:

Maria Connie Laurent, 88, a resident of Las Cruces, NM - pending

Maria Connie Laurent, 88, a resident of Las Cruces, NM, entered eternal rest Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Mesilla Valley Hospice-La Posada, in Las Cruces, NM.  Arrangements are pending with Terrazas Funeral Chapels ~ 575-537-0777.

Rees Low Madsen, 83, a resident of Silver City, NM

Rees Low Madsen, 83, passed away on May 6, 2023 in Provo, Utah. He was born on December 26, 1939 in Yerington, Nevada to Clyde and Rose Madsen.

Rees grew up in a small town south of Tucson, Arizona. He graduated from Tucson High School.  After high school he joined  the United States Navy and served for 4 years. He spent several years aboard the USS Sabalo, a submarine that traveled all over the South Pacific.  

Shortly after his discharge Rees met his future wife Cynthia Ambrose working at a J.M. Fields Department Store in Gainesville, Florida.  She worked as a manager and he worked in the stock room.  They married on December 16, 1965 and soon moved to the western United States. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple May 13, 1966.   

Rees went on to finish his education graduating from the University of Arizona.  After graduation, he was employed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.  Cynthia and Rees moved often, working on different National Wildlife Refuges in the west, the last being in southern Arizona. Upon retirement in June of 2000, they settled in Silver City.

Kenneth William Teague, Sr., 74, a resident of Silver City, NM

Kenneth William Teague, Sr. passed away on May 9, 2023, at the age of 74 in Akron, Ohio. He was born on March 14, 1949, in Silver City, NM

Kenny, as he was known to his loved ones, was an avid gear head who spent 34 years as a diesel mechanic and truck driver at Alan Ritchey. He logged over a million miles during his 21 years on the road, often joking that he was "sitting in his office, looking out the window."

Kenny served his country with honor as a member of the United States Navy, and he was a proud member of the American Legion. He spent much of his free time with his family at the racetrack, being a band booster dad, camping, and traveling.

Kenny is survived by his wife, Susan, and his children Tracy Teague of CA, Amy and husband Billy Mirabal of AZ, Sarah and husband Victor "Tito" Cabrera, Jessica Cabrera, Kenny Jr. and wife Kassy Teague all of NM, Krystal Spiegle of OH and Courtney and husband Jack Bishop of TX. Teresa Taylor of NM. He is also survived by his siblings Margaret Daniel, Leon and wife Dolores Teague, Lonnie and wife Maggie Teague all of NM, eighteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glen Edward Taylor, 66, a resident of Cliff, NM

taylor 02Glen was born in Silver City, NM and died in Silver City at his sister’s house. Glen worked for years for Hill Top service station and Fowler Brothers after he graduated from high school. Then he went to work for Southwest Concrete and Paving where he worked till his recent retirement.

He is survived by one sister, Katherine from Silver City; his heart family, Paul Torres from Mesa, AZ and her daughters who thought of him as a dad, Joy and Allen Brabham, Renne Fortenberry, Karla and Dylan Bickman, their kids who thought of him as “Papa”, Ashley, Chelsea, Lane, Dakoda, Tayla and Bethani.  He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Taylor; his mother, Dorothy Louise Taylor; his younger sister, Bonnie Fae Taylor; both sets of Grandparents, Ellis and Cleo Taylor and Charles Gib and Lola May Gardner.
