Delfina M. Mesa, 98, resident of Silver City, NM

delfina1 copyDelfina M. Mesa, 98, resident of Silver City, NM, entered eternal rest Friday, March 17, 2023. Delfina was born on April 17, 1924 in Fierro, NM to her parents Ysaura and Prospero Martinez. She had 7 siblings, 5 sisters and 2 brothers. 

Delfina (Fina) was a homemaker, a devoted Catholic and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting baby blankets, booties and hats for her new grandchildren and blankets as gifts for friends and family. She also enjoyed her Tai Chi lessons at the Silver City Senior Center. She had many friends there and frequently talked about time spent with them.

Maria Erlinda L. Picazo, 75, a resident of Santa Clara, NM, entered eternal rest Sunday, May 7, 2023 at her residence. Arrangements are pending with Terrazas Funeral Chapels ~ 575-537-0777.

Kenneth “Kenny” Hansen, 77, a resident of Silver City, NM

hansen 02Ken Hansen, 77, born to Thomas Percy and Lois Eugenia (Woodward) Hansen on September 10, 1945 in Hobart, Oklahoma.  

Growing up in Carlsbad and most recently living in Silver City, NM, Ken Hansen died of cancer and heart complications on April 29, 2023.

He graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1964, and attended college briefly at NMSU. He then was drafted into the Army, where he served in Viet Nam. He often volunteered to take point, and in his spare time, flew recon as a spotter in a single engine aircraft. Afterwards, he came home to Carlsbad and worked for a while at one of the mines. He left on a year-long sojourn up the west coast in his Air Force surplus Chevrolet Suburban which he bid on and bought for $111.11. He drove the Suburban for several years and had many memorable adventures in it.

Rita Salgado, 59, a resident of Bayard, NM

salgado 02Rita Salgado, 59, a resident of Bayard, NM, entered eternal rest Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Las Palmas Medical Center, in El Paso, Texas. She was born on May 6, 1963 to her parents, Baldomero and Consuelo (Sanchez) Esqueda in Silver City, New Mexico. She attended college and worked as a medical secretary for Presbyterian Hospital.  

Rita was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. Despite her large family Rita always made time for everyone. She always provided support and love for her friends and family. Rita was a passionate crocheter. We will miss her greatly. Rita was one of the strongest, bravest, and kindest women to ever walk this earth and our family was blessed to have her and we will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.
