Dan Judkins who is a local historian will be speaking about the San Antonio-San Diego Mail Line otherwise known as the "Jackass Mail", it was the earliest overland stagecoach and mail operation form the Eastern United States to California in operation between 1857 and 1861. It was created, organized and financed by James E. Birch the head of the California Stage Company. Birch was awarded the first contract for over land service on the "Southern Route", designated Route 8076.
The Corral meets at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Schieffelin Hall, Fremont St. at 4th, Tombstone. Come and see this wonderful, historic theater built in 1882. There is an optional 5-ish pre-meeting dinner at the Longhorn Restaurant, Allen St., Tombstone. Call or email ahead so we can tell the restaurant how many to expect.
