Silver Consolidated Schools is proud to unveil a new era in its leadership landscape, with strategic transitions that underscore the district's commitment to educational excellence. After an illustrious 25-year journey, Travis Yurcic, Principal of Jose Barrios Elementary, has announced his intent to retire effective August 31, 2023. To ensure a seamless transition, Bobby Trujillo, currently the Principal of 6th Street School, will step into the role of Principal at Jose Barrios Elementary. Concurrently, Heather Holguin, the esteemed Assistant Principal at La Plata Middle School, will ascend to the role of Principal at 6th Street.

Bobby Trujillo's New Role: A Visionary Leader Takes Charge
Bobby Trujillo, a respected figure in the district with over two decades of educational experience, will assume the pivotal role of Principal at Jose Barrios Elementary. Trujillo's deep-rooted commitment to student success, coupled with his penchant for collaborative leadership, positions him as a natural fit for this strategic transition.  Mr. Trujillo is a beacon of joy and inspiration for students.  His transformative leadership at 6th Street has been marked by his unique ability to infuse play, curiosity and joy in learning. Trujillo’s six-year tenure as Principal of the Kindergarten campus has uniquely positioned him to lead Jose Barrios Elementary. His intimate understanding of early childhood education, combined with his experience in principaling all Kindergarten students across Silver Consolidated Schools, equips him with a deep appreciation for educational milestones and an unparalleled insight into the district’s foundational years. Silver Schools is honored Mr. Trujilo accepted the mantle of Principal at Jose Barrios Elementary. His journey in education has been guided by a passion for student emotional and intellectual growth, collaborative campus ownership of student success and community building. This transition presents an exciting opportunity to amplify those principles beyond 6th Street to Jose Barrios.

Heather Holguin's Promotion: Nurturing Excellence in Education
Heather Holguin, an accomplished educator with a distinguished 20-year career, brings a wealth of expertise in early childhood education to her new role as Principal at 6th Street School. With the majority of her 19 years of teaching experience spent guiding Kindergarten and 1st Grade students, Holguin’s deep understanding of these formative years will undoubtedly influence her leadership. Holguin’s recent experience as an Assistant Principal at La Plata Middle School has further enriched her perspective. Her time in this role allowed her to collaborate closely with faculty, students, and parents, gaining insights that will contribute to her effective leadership at 6th Street School. Holguin’s approach to fostering growth, curiosity, and academic foundations aligns seamlessly with the core values of 6th Street School. Her passion for cultivating nurturing learning environments ensures that every student’s educational journey is one of discovery and excellence. Holguin shared her excitement, stating, “Leading 6th Street School is a tremendous privilege. Kindergarten marks the inception of a child’s educational journey, and I am steadfast in continuing to nurture an established environment that fosters growth and curiosity.”
