Grant County Commission holds special meeting 011019

By Mary Alice Murphy

In a brief special meeting, the Grant County commissioners met to address a single item that needed to be completed in time to have a two-week notice so it could be addressed at the upcoming regular meeting on Jan. 24, 2019

The item was a resolution of a notice of intent to consider a low-income rebate ordinance.

County Manager Charlene Webb said the state requires each county to consider the ordinance in January of every odd-numbered year. "As we have said before, it is still an unknown hit to the county budget. We will hold the public hearing at the Jan. 24 regular meeting.

Commissioner Javier Salas asked if the commissioners would get more data.

Webb said because it is an unknown amount, no data is available.

After approval of the notice of intent, the meeting was adjourned.

Webb told the Beat afterward that the county does not currently have the ordinance in place but is required to consider it every two years. Only two counties in the state have the ordinance—Santa Fe and Los Alamos. The unknowns are how many people would apply for it and be eligible and how much it would cost.
