alex ocheltree at lc barOn November 14 from 12-1pm, the Silver City Museum will host a talk on one the most storied ranches of the American West which was, right here in our back yard. Alex Ocheltree, current owner and passionate restorer, will guide attendees through the fascinating history of the Lyons-Campbell Ranch and its property in Cliff, NM. The talk will take place at the Museum’s Annex at 302 W. Broadway, and is free of charge.

The Lyons-Campbell Ranch was at its peak a one-million acre ranch owned by Englishmen Tom Lyons and Scottish prospector Angus Campbell. They created an empire that was the second-largest ranch in the United States until the still-unsolved murder or Tom Lyons in 1917, after which the ranch become an ice factory, a utopian commune for Great Depression refugees, and was finally purchased by opera-singing art and antique collectors who have spent several generations restoring the LC Ranch to its former glory and beyond.

Attendees of this lecture will get a pass to tour the newly renovated LC Ranch for only $10 (normally $15).

The Silver City Museum creates opportunities for residents and visitors to explore, understand, and celebrate the rich and diverse cultural heritage of southwestern New Mexico by collecting, preserving, researching, and interpreting the region's unique history. Admission is free; a suggested donation of $5 helps support the museum’s education programs, collections care and exhibitions.
