Ditch the Commercial Shopping & Visit Silver City, NM

Silver City, NM – November 5, 2019 – A paradise for art lovers, Silver City, New Mexico is an eclectic destination known for its myriad of unique galleries throughout the historic downtown district. This holiday season, the streets of downtown Silver City are the ideal place to find one-of-a-kind gifts and a relaxing getaway to combat the holiday stress.

“Holiday shopping has become a burdensome time, as people try to come up with creative, out-of-the-ordinary gifts that feel special to both the giver and the recipient,” said Alex Brown, Town of Silver City Manager. “Big box stores offer little that is unique and personal. In Silver City, we value art, culture and personal touches. In Silver City, you’re likely to find a gift that is truly one-of-a-kind.”

While the holiday season in larger cities is filled with long lines, over-commercialized—and often over-priced—consumer items, Silver City offers a slower pace of life and an infusion of creative inspiration behind every corner.

“Downtown Silver City is magical any time of year,” added Brown, “but it’s even more magical during the holidays. The art, jewelry, and handmade wares featured in local galleries are incredible and inspiring, and best of all, they'll warm the hearts of everyone on your shopping list.”

In addition to stress-free shopping, celebrate the holidays in Silver City with iconic annual events. In December, take a step back in time and celebrate Victorian style with the 25th Annual Victorian Christmas at the Silver City Museum. In addition to showcasing the history of the Victorian era, the event includes live music, snacks, interactive activities and visits with Santa.

While in town, plan to stay for a few days and explore the wide array of outdoor recreation in the area—perfect any time of year—with Silver City’s mild winter weather. Walk through history at the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, visit the Catwalk Recreation Area to enjoy picnic, a hike, or an exploration of hidden places, or check out City of Rocks State Park.

Come earlier in the holiday season and enjoy the Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 30, as well as a horse drawn wagon to takes shoppers around town for Shop Small Saturday.
