The Silver City Public Library will launch its 2019-2020 concert series with violinist Jack Glatzer on Friday, December 6, 6:00pm.
The evening’s program will focus on Bach and Paganini, the two masters of music for the solo violin from the music of heaven to the devil’s fiddler. The Paganini section will be accompanied by Margaret Hereld’s commentary presenting a new vision of who Paganini was.
Doors open 30 minutes before the beginning of the concert. First come, first seated. The library concert series is free thanks to the Friends of the Library!
Jack Glatzer was born in Dallas, Texas. He began the study of the violin at the age of five and at thirteen gave his debut recital. A year later he appeared as soloist with the Dallas Symphony under Walter Hendl. Glatzer has studied with several of the greatest teachers of the post-war period, including Leonard Posner, Joseph Fuchs, Sandor Vegh and Maxim Jacobsen; in addition to his musical studies at Yale School of Music and the Musik Akademie of Basel, Switzerland. Glatzer regularly makes concert tours around the world and has played on every continent, in over forty countries.
Glatzer’s background and interest in the history of culture have led to his highly successful concerts – “son et lumiere” – in which musical performance is elucidated by a lecture and illuminated by visual images.
The next concert in the series will be “Music from the Ranch and Open Range” with Steve Cormier, Ph.D., on Friday, January 17, 6:00pm.
