p1020823gmcr pd 2018 04 moonshine 1Gila/Mimbres Community Radio (GMCR) and KURU 89.1 FM will hold a Holiday Membership Drive and Showcase of Local Talent Thursday-Saturday, December 12-14, 2019. Carolyn Smith, Chair of the radio station’s Board of Directors, said “This unique event will be a festive celebration of the holidays, and of our community radio station’s six years of broadcasting at 10,500 watts throughout Grant County and beyond. Please encourage your friends and family to listen. We’ll announce holiday events going on in the area and interview the people who make them happen.

We’ll feature live performances by musicians, poets, activists, elected officials, and hosts of KURU’s many fine locally produced programs, along with many of the local and national programs that have made the station renowned in this community. Visitors to the station will be welcomed to an open house with delicious refreshments and gracious hospitality.” 

GMCR also announced an art raffle to benefit the radio station, featuring a unique donation of artwork by each of three well-known local artists: the late Tom Holt, Marilyn Gendron, and John Ashbaugh. The drawing will be held when 400 tickets have been sold at $25.00 per ticket. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be purchased by an individual. The three pieces are currently displayed at GMCR, 519-B N. Bullard St., Silver City. Beginning on December 16, the art will move to aSpA©E Gallery, 110 W. 7th Street, Silver City (one block west of N. Bullard St.). 

In addition to aSpA©E Gallery, tickets are available at GMCR, at First American Bank (1609 N. Swan St.) and at Geisler Studio at Common Ground (102 W. Kelly).

GMCR and KURU broadcast music, news and public affairs, cultural and educational topics, and commentary, with Spanish-language in addition to English programming. Locally produced programs include Earth Matters, Local Flavor, Roots and Branches, Jazz from the Gila, Rambling Radio Revival, Mitchellaneous, Travelers in the Night, Today’s Healthy Community – and more.
