Grant County- On January 8, 2020 at about 1:50 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a single vehicle fatal rollover crash on US 180, near milepost 76, west of Cliff, NM.

The Initial investigation indicated a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Viola H. Escobar (67) of Santa Clara, NM was traveling east on US180. For unknown reasons the vehicle left the roadway and rolled. The driver, Escobar sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and she was pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. 

A passenger in the Tahoe, Lucia Mendoza Norero (68) of Arenas Valley, NM sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and she was also pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized. No additional information is available.
