2023 is the 10th anniversary of Give Grandly, and this year we celebrate with 64 nonprofit organizations who will participate in the Give Grandly event—live and in-person!—on Saturday, May 6, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Makers Market in downtown Silver City. And this year, with our new Give Grandly platform, online donations can be made as early as April 22 at www.givegrandly.org

This community day of giving is our chance to champion the many nonprofit organizations, and the people who work in them, in Grant, Luna, Catron and Hidalgo counties that help to make southwest New Mexico such a special place to live. All of these nonprofits depend heavily on volunteers, grants, and critical donations to be able to offer their services to us. Give Grandly is a way that we can show our appreciation and support of them.

Nonprofits provide a wide range of activities, programs, and services that enrich our lives. They inspire us with arts and culture—think of our vibrant local museums, theaters, festivals, murals, and maker’s markets.

They preserve the stories of our ancestors, whether ancient, indigenous, or pioneer, through history and archeology. They encourage lifelong learning, through literacy programs, libraries, and continuing education, and they engage our youth with programs that are supportive of and relevant to them.

“Give Grandly is massively important to our community for its ability to connect all these amazing nonprofits, the backbone of our town's infrastructure!” said Mary Stone of Future Forge. “The beauty of this event is that it shows our community how important nonprofits are and provides an opportunity for the community to become aware of all the wonderful people and organizations working behind the scenes.”

Local area nonprofits support our fragile communities and ecosystems. They provide food security and other essential protections for people in challenging times. “Give Grandly enables nonprofits to raise extra money that normally they are unable to raise,” says Charlene Fletcher of El Refugio. According to Polly Edmunds of Border Partners in Deming, Give Grandly also expands the reach of nonprofits: “Over the years, we have reached many new supporters in the Grant County area who continue to support our work on the border.”

Nonprofits preserve, protect, and defend our increasingly fragile natural environment, and they protect and advocate for wild and domestic animals. They create well-being so that our diverse communities not only survive but thrive. “When we were new to the area, Give Grandly got us connected with other local charities and the local community,” said Melissa Amarello of The Advocates for Snake Preservation. Charmeine Wait of The Upper Gila Watershed Association added, “Fundraising is important, of course, but meeting the community and meeting other nonprofits. Nothing else is like it!”

Nonprofits create community, and communities help each other. “Our membership is small, but our supporters are many,” said Damie Nelson of PFLAG. “We used to operate on about $1,000 a year. Our participation in Give Grandly has more than doubled that and enabled us to reach many more people.”

We can support all of our nonprofits’ important activities by showing up at Give Grandly, and by getting to know and support the nonprofit organizations that sustain all of us. Join us on May 6th and donate in person or online at www.givegrandly.org.  It’s fun, and you’ll meet new people, learn new things, and give back to the community. All donations, no matter how big or how small, are welcome, and all are tax-deductible.

There are many ways you can donate during Give Grandly. You can go to www.givegrandly.org and create a shopping cart of up to 10 nonprofits, then pay in one easy credit card transaction  (and you can do this a few times if you want to donate to more than 10!).

For those who are not fans of donating online, we will have a printed form, with a list of all 63 participating nonprofits, which you can find on the back page of the Silver City Daily Press insert; pick up at the Grant County Community Foundation office on Pope Street; or print from the Give Grandly website. Fill in the boxes with the amounts you wish to donate to your favorite causes, add up the total and write just one check to the Grant County Community Foundation. The Community Foundation will faithfully distribute your entire donations to the organizations you have marked. The completed form, with your check, can be mailed to Grant County Community Foundation. PO Box 1767, Silver City, NM 88062, or turned in to the Community Foundation’s Give Grandly booth at the Maker’s Market or to the office on Pope Street. You can donate using any of these methods between April 22nd and May 22nd. Or you can simply turn up on Saturday, May 6th, and hand over cash or checks in person, where you’ll have fun, meet new people, learn new things, and give back to the community.

Each organization participating in Give Grandly 2023 will receive up to $500 in match funds that your donations will help them reach! This donation stimulus is provided by Give Grandly’s generous sponsors, who include Suzi & Janey; United Way of Southwest New Mexico; Freeport-McMoRan; Sherman Community Foundation in Deming; Griffith’s Propane; Hidalgo Medical Services; First New Mexico Bank; Better Homes and Gardens; and Vladimir Gnilozubov, Jennifer McKeen Villegas, and Niel McDonald of Edward Jones. We are extremely grateful to each of them for supporting our community. Additional support for Give Grandly comes from grants and funds awarded by the Town of Silver City, McCune Charitable Foundation, Javalina Coffee Shop, Silver City Daily Press, KURU, Freeman Films, Oasis Tea & Coffee Shop, and Boxcar Stickers. The entire event is supported by the Grant County Community Foundation.
