SILVER CITY – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish works tirelessly to conserve New Mexico’s fish and wildlife for current and future generations. Its conservation work is made possible by funds from hunters and anglers, which are reinvested to conserve all wildlife for the people of New Mexico and our visitors. While science guides the Department’s conservation strategies, it depends on public input to help set larger conservation objectives for your fish and wildlife resources.

Want to have your voice heard about conservation in New Mexico? Do you have thoughts about the Department’s work? The New Mexico State Game Commission is here for you! The Commission is a citizens’ body that sets the Department’s direction and serves as a liaison between your interests and the Department’s work. The Commission now welcomes a full complement of seven members representing all areas and interests.

Meet your commissioners and have your voice heard by joining your Commission on Friday, April 19, 2024, at the Grant County Business and Conference Center, 3031 US-180, Silver City, New Mexico 88061 beginning at 8:30 a.m. This meeting will feature an exciting agenda! You will hear from the leaders of the Department about the function and mission of its various Divisions to learn about the work being done for your wildlife and fish. Department experts will also give an overview of notable programs, including the Mexican Gray Wolf Program, Fisheries Management and the Elk Private Land Use System (E-PLUS). From there, the public will have an afternoon to take part in a public listening session where we welcome your thoughts. Beginning at 10 a.m., the Department invites the public to learn more about outreach efforts by joining in on various educational activities such as archery, a hunting-safety simulator, wildlife identification and an off-highway vehicle simulator. Come join us for an informative and fun time!

If you cannot make it to Silver City, you can still participate and provide comments by pre-registering then attending on the Zoom Webinar platform.  For those who wish only to view the meeting, there will also be a live webcast on the Department’s website. If you are an individual with a disability who needs a reader, amplifier, qualified sign language interpreter or any other form of auxiliary aid or service to attend or participate in the meeting, please contact Darren Vaughan at 505-476-8027 or  darren.vaughan@dgf.nm.gov  .
