The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District One office will begin a maintenance operation project to place “chip seal” pavement on various roadways in Sierra and Socorro County. The chip seal process is a surface treatment that is placed on the existing pavement that in designed to seal out moisture and create a more durable surface that will extend the longevity of the roadway.

The chip seal crew will begin work on Monday, April 22nd along NM 1 (T or C) at mile post 25 working south toward T or C. Motorists will encounter reduced speeds, flagging operations, brooming and intermittent lane closures during working operations, Monday to Friday from 7:00 am until 5:00 pm.

In all construction zones, motorists are asked to reduce speed, obey posted signs, and use extreme caution, as well as continue to be cautious of heavy equipment and construction personnel in the area. Expect no center stripe in construction zones.

The District One office will also be chip sealing additional routes in the area;

NM 195, NM 59, NM 52, NM 107, NM 525, Frontage Road 2023.
