Roswell, NM – On November 4, 2019, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was contacted by the Roswell Police Department (RPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.  State Police investigators learned that on November 4, 2019 at about 3:00 p.m. RPD responded to the report of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar located at 909 East Second Street in Roswell. 

RPD officers arrived and were canvassing the area looking for the suspect.  An RPD officer found the suspect at the intersection of Beech and Brown St. in Roswell.  During the encounter, the RPD officer fired their weapon at the suspect.  The suspect was struck by gunfire and was ultimately airlifted for injuries sustained during the incident.  The suspects current condition is unknown. 

The details that lead up to this shooting are under investigation by the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau.  The officers involved were uninjured.  The name of the suspect will not be released at this time.  The name of the officer involved will not be released until interviews have taken place.  For inquiries about the RPD officer’s duty status please contact RPD.  More details will be released as they become available.
