Chaves County, NM - On November 13, 2019 at about 8:00 p.m. the New Mexico State Police responded to a fatal crash on US Highway 70/380 and Brown Road west of Roswell.

The initial investigation indicated a 1991 Chevy truck, occupied by driver Katelynn Marie Joswiak Kelly (20) of Hagerman and a child passenger was traveling north on Brown Road. For unknown reasons the Chevy truck failed to stop at the intersection of Brown Road and U.S. 70/380. The Chevy proceeded into the intersection and was struck on the driver side by an east bound 2004 Dodge truck. Kelly sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The child was transported to an area hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Their injuries and current condition are not known. The driver of the dodge, a forty-eight-year-old Artesia man was uninjured in the crash.

Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor to the crash and seatbelts appear to have been properly utilized. The driver of the Dodge is not facing charges and will not be immediately identified. For their privacy, the identity of the child will not be released at this time by State Police. The crash is still under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
