Socorro County, NM - On January 20, 2020 at about 12:56 p.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash at the intersection of NM Highway 304 and US60, east of Bernardo, NM.

The initial investigation indicated a 2000 Chevy SUV, driven by Harlan Leroy Swanson (94) and passenger Elinor N. Swanson (92) both of Colorado Springs, CO were traveling north on NM Highway 304 when they approached the intersection of US60. For unknown reasons the driver of the Chevy made a left turn onto US60 and was struck by a 2006 Merr Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) that was traveling eastbound on US60.

The driver and passenger of the Chevy both sustained fatal injuries in the crash and both were pronounced deceased on scene by the Office of Medical Investigator. The CMV was driven by 52-year-old male of Belen, NM. The 52-year-old male sustained unknown injuries and he was transported to a hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and seatbelts appear to have been used properly. New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and Drone Team assisted in the investigation. No other additional information is currently available.
