Carlsbad, NM - Do you enjoy the outdoors and have extra time to spend volunteering? Become a docent at the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park in Carlsbad. As a docent you will learn about the Chihuahuan Desert, participate in educational teaching opportunities and be recognized as an official guide!

This year’s Docent Training at Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park will be held on eight consecutive Wednesdays beginning on Wednesday, February 5 and continuing through March 25. Each session begins at 9 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m., so bring a sack lunch. You will learn about every aspect of the Chihuahuan Desert and the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens State Park, including geology, plants, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, birds, and mammals.

The fee for the training is $35, which includes a docent manual, a polo shirt, and a name tag. Scholarships are available for those with financial needs who are willing to volunteer a minimum of 50 hours annually. Bilingual docents are especially needed.
