quevedo 03Surrounded by his loved ones, Pete Carrizozo Quevedo, aka “Tata” by his grandchildren, journeyed home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2019.  He was born on December 14, 1930 in Lordsburg (town of Valedon), New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angel & Eduviques Quevedo, his stepfather whom he also loved as a dad, Manuel Nevarez, his loving wife, Corinne Alarid Quevedo, his siblings, Angelita Ortiz, Manuel Quevedo, Chelo Torres, Elvira Lopez, and Emilio “Lefty” Quevedo. 

He is survived by his sister, Anita Nevarez Gomez and sister in-law, Nellie Quevedo, his children, Larry Quevedo (Sally) Barbara Escudero (Larry) and Rodrigo Quevedo (Bernadette), his grandchildren, Angel Quevedo (Teresa), Evelyn Stevenson (Rodney), Lori Ortiz (Eric), Lila Torres (Narciso “Cecil”), Lawrence “Tubby” Escudero (Christina Garcia), Michelle Marquez (Danny Ray), Elizabeth Quevedo (Adrian Montes), Corrina Quevedo (Jeff Guzman), Jessica Lopez (Julian Yanez) Anjelica Holguin (Zack), Denise Dominguez (Joe Manuel) & Gabriela “Gabby” Brusuelas (Thai Van Do), 41 great-grandchildren & 4 great great-grandchildren. 

He proudly served in the U.S. Army. On December 12, 2018 he was awarded a “Quilt of Valor” from the local QOV Foundation, which draped on his bed until his final passing. He retired from Kennecott on June 1, 1982 after 34 years of service as a tool room mechanic in thee Big Truck Shop. He was a jack of all trades and was able to do just about anything from building wood furniture with carved designing (most of which furnished his home), to cement work, rock-wall fencing, plumbing, etc. He was also known for his creative cooking & was quick to take over a bowl of soup to a loved one who’d fallen ill. Every year he would pay tribute to his loved one’s burial sites by taking flowers & upkeeping their plots.  His grandchildren will remember him fondly for always blessing them and telling them, “See you in the funny papers.” He will also be remembered for his readiness to always lend a helping hand, his quiet nature, his many talents and a smile that would light up a room. Visitation will be Friday, October 4 from 9-10am at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary being recited by Deacon Art Gutierrez to begin at 10am. The funeral mass will follow at 11:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Martin Okonkwo officiating. Concluding service and interment will take place at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors. Pallbearers will include Angel Quevedo, Lawrence “Tubby” Escudero, Eric Ortiz, Justin Diaz, Danny Ray Marquez, Narciso “Cecil” Torres, Narciso Jr., “Wero” Torres and Ryan Escudero.  Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
