Harry “Rocky” Hildebrand, 74, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Sunday, December 1, 2019 at his home with his family. He lost his battle with cancer; but was home where he wanted to be. Rocky was born November 26, 1945 in Bend, Oregon. He and his family came to Grant County in 1986. He was very proud of his 34-year career with the U.S. Forest Service. He loved the outdoors, the work he did there, hunting, fishing, and exploring.

He also loved history and, in his retirement, dedicated his time to Ft. Bayard Historical Preservation Society. He was passionate about passing on history to everyone and gave tours at Ft. Bayard, mostly on weekends. He loved Santa Clara, its Administration and was proud to be a Trustee there. He is survived by his loving wife Lorie of the family home; his daughter, Kamala Golden of Silver City; her children, Krislynn Collin, Cale and Ron; his daughter, Melissa Hildebrand of La Pine, Oregon and her four children; two sons, Kevin and Douglas Hildebrand of Bend, OR; and one great grandchild. A Celebration of Life service will be celebrated Sunday, December 8 at 3pm at the Santa Clara Armory. In lieu of flowers family requests donations be made to Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society and Santa Clara Action Committee fund. Cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory.
