She is survived by her husband Phill Smith, sisters Markrid Izquierdo, Sara Izquierdo, brother in law Marcus Braun and brother Pablo Izquierdo.Katy was born in New York, New York in 1951. Three years later she moved with her family to Portland, Oregon where she became the eldest of four siblings and completed high school. Katy worked in banking while practicing in the arts on a personal level. Not liking the idea of living as a “starving artist” she once again pursued education to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Her new profession and adventurous spirit took her to job locales such as the Russian Far East, Norway, Europe, Brazil and Central and South America. A position with the Native Kluckwan Tribe took Katy to Juneau, Alaska where she met and married husband Phill in 1990. They lived there enjoying the outdoors and travel until Phill retired and they moved to Silver City, New Mexico where Katy worked as an accountant at Engineers Incorporated. Katy never gave up her love for the arts. She continued to create and fill the home with beautiful pieces of all kinds. She had an incredible love for animals and would frequently come home with an abandoned cat or dog, ensuring they received proper care and a loving home. The horse corrals were always full as she enjoyed spending time with horses despite not enjoying the ride.

Katy will be greatly missed by who knew her and loved her. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements, “Traditional Services and Care for your family and friends,” 210 W. College Ave., Silver City, NM.  88061. Phone 575-388-1911.  Remembrances can be made at www.hbrightfuneral.net
