walkerLinda Jones Walker passed away peacefully on January 13, 2020, in her childhood home in Silver City, New Mexico, just 3 minutes after her 72nd birthday.  She is survived by her sisters, Judy (Jimmy) Filleman and Debra (Bill) French, her son Michael (Heidi) Walker, six grandchildren, and five nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Marcus “Bud” and Jessie Jones of Silver City.  Linda was born in El Paso, Texas in 1948. She graduated from Silver City High School in 1966 and from Western New Mexico University in 1970. She later moved to Lordsburg, where she taught elementary school for 35 years, before retiring in 2006. During her time in Lordsburg, she was blessed with wonderful friends and enjoyed supporting Michael and her students in their extracurricular and sporting events, finding great joy in directing 4th and 5th grade students in several plays over the years.

She loved animals and was blessed to share her home with many loving canine companions. She loved teaching, reading, spending time with family and friends, board and card games, movies, football, and spending time driving and hiking in the mountains. She enjoyed traveling and was blessed to enjoy many wonderful vacations all around the world, her favorite being a trip to Israel and Egypt in 2013. She was a faithful and devoted Christian and was blessed by her long-time membership in the First United Methodist Church in Lordsburg, New Mexico. She moved to Silver City when she was diagnosed with aggressive bone cancer in 2019, and remained there, near family and friends until her passing. A memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 109 W 3rd St, Lordsburg, New Mexico, on February 15, 2020 at 10am. A private family burial will follow with final interment at the Memory Lane Cemetery in Silver City, New Mexico. Remembrances can be shared at www.hbrightfuneral.net.
