...A BRIEF SHOT OF WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS EXPECTED ACROSS
SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO AND FAR WEST TEXAS TODAY...

A powerful Pacific storm system will pass over the Borderland
region today, spreading isolated to scattered rain and snow
showers across the area. Cold air is in place and snow levels are
down to the desert floor elevations, meaning all areas that
receive precipitation through the morning hours will see that in
the form of snowfall. However this moisture is starved for
moisture and thus accumulations of snow and rain are expected to
be quite light over most of the region.

The mountainous terrain has the best potential for accumulating
snow with 1 to 3 inches of snow over the Gila and Sacramento high
country. However even those areas are likely to see less. The
lowland snows through the morning should be mostly isolated in
coverage and very light in accumulations with generally trace
amounts resulting in light dustings.

Despite the light nature of the snow, or the rain and snow
mixture, there may be hazardous driving conditions due to
slippery roads and low visibility. Temperatures will be much
colder Today with temperatures remaining around 20 degrees below
normal. Winds will also become strong by mid day as westerly
winds increase to 20 to 30 mph with higher gusts behind a cold
front.

Precipitation is expected to diminish in the afternoon hours as
the system begins to lift out of the region.
