November 5 – Local Election Day
Local non-partisan elections will be held Tuesday Nov. 5. According to an article on the county website, the 2018 Legislature passed HB 98 which establishes a statewide Local Election for non-partisan officers and local government ballot questions. It combines all local elections into one election in odd numbered years. This Nov. 5, 2019 will be the first ever Local Election in Catron County. That means the Village of Reserve, Quemado and Reserve School Districts, and all Soil and Water Conservation Districts will participate. Voters will vote ballots applicable for the area in which they live. In Glenwood, voting will be held at Glenwood Community Center, 14 Menges Lane. Senior Center fundraiser
The Senior Center ladies will be selling homemade holiday cookies as a fundraiser. Orders are being taken now through Nov. 8. Cookies may be picked up at the Holiday Bazar Nov. 23. A large box of cookies (approximately 6 dozen) is $24, a medium box (about 3 dozen) is $12 and a cookie bag (about 1 dozen) is $4. Great for parties, family gatherings or just for you! Friday November 8 is Movie Night at Glenwood Community Library. The movie is “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” a comedy-drama based on a novel of the same name. It chronicles the life of Enzo, a dying golden retriever who is waiting for his owner to return home. It stars Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried and Kevin Costner as the voice of Enzo. Two events November 16:
Gila Valley author, Sharman Apt Russell, will talk about her award-winning book, “Diary of a Citizen Scientist: Chasing Beetles and Other New Ways of Engaging the World” on Saturday Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. at Glenwood Community Library. Not only does Russell create a portrait of the tiger beetle she tracks, but of what inspires ordinary people from all walks of life to participate in scientific study. A prolific writer on many subjects, including science fiction, the Glenwood Library Collection offers seven of her fascinating books.
Glenwood Woman’s Club’s annual Turkey dinner is set for 5- 7 p.m. Saturday Nov. 16 at Glenwood Community Center. Enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the trimmings including dessert and beverages. Adults -- $10, Children -- $5. Take-outs welcome.

Vendor space is still available for the Glenwood Holiday Bazaar set for Saturday Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Glenwood Community Center, 14 Menges Lane. For more information, contact Holly at 575-539-2112. It’s a great place to pick up unique items for your holiday gift-giving. Food will be provided by the Purple Onion. There will also be a raffle for a “Southwest Comfort” basket.
Cosmic Campground
This month the Cosmic Campground Weekend will be Nov. 22-24. The Leonid Meteor shower will be active Nov. 17-18. Bring a friend, red filtered flashlight, very warm clothes, a lawn chair, and telescope and binoculars if you have them. Make new friends and enjoy the wonders of the night sky. The 2020 calendar that benefits Glenwood Community Library which features work from area artists is available at the library. Calendars are $10 each and all proceeds benefit the library. The calendar cover features an oil painting, “Alma, Soul of New Mexico,” by Loris Garber.
Glenwood Street Market – Every Saturday
The Glenwood Street Market offers a variety of food – home-baked items, canned goods, fresh produce, plants, handcrafted jewelry, leather goods, outdoor decorative items and much more.

The market is open on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood every Saturday from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Trading Post has reopened under new management, Kerry Ruth and Carla Schmieder, who also operate Los Olmos Lodge. The rejuvenated store, on Highway 180 in downtown Glenwood, offers snacks, drinks, sandwiches and – gas (available 24/7). As an added bonus, they have purchased the stock from the Rock Shop which had been closed and rockhounds of all ages will be pleased to peruse their offerings.
