Vacation Resolution: No more overpriced vacations

Farmington, NM – January 9, 2018 – January is a month filled with resolutions and planning for the year ahead, and oftentimes, people find themselves stressing about paying for a summer vacation early in the year. This year, Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau invites travelers to resolve not to allow stress or financial burdens to overtake their vacation planning.

Farmington, New Mexico is well known as the place where active families and outdoor lovers thrive, and is an affordable destination with many great options to fit the needs of a variety of travelers.

"While vacations or getaways are meant to be a time when people let go of stress, far too often people get consumed by intensive planning, spending more than they can afford and spending most of their vacation time chasing after a pre-scheduled set of events," said Tonya Stinson, Executive Director of Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau. "It doesn't have to be that way. Vacations can still be exactly what they were designed to be—relaxing, reinvigorating, enjoyable and affordable. We invite all who might be feeling overwhelmed by vacation planning to explore Farmington, New Mexico, and rediscover what vacations should be."

Farmington is set in the Four Corners Region and offers spectacular views and one-of-a-kind experiences, including options to unplug and experience the adventures of the great outdoors, as well as options to immerse oneself into culture and out-of-the-classroom learning. With three rivers and five lakes, there are also many options for those interested in water sports, fishing and relaxing on the water.

Among the things to do in Farmington this spring or summer, the Farmington CVB recommends:

Make it a beach trip. The Beach at Lake Farmington is a family-friendly oasis with groomed sandy beaches, lap lanes, play areas, water slides, a trampoline, and lifeguards on duty. The Beach is ideal for swimming, has been expanded by 10,000 square feet, and has additional water toys to make your visit even more fun. Paddleboards and kayaks can be rented onsite at the Paddle Shack.

Get theme park-level thrills. There's no need to stand in line for hours this summer to experience the thrills of a rollercoaster. In Farmington you are in control, and you can take the wheel and experience high-level adventures while rock crawling. Farmington's recreation areas have a variety of trails, including sandy arroyos, large sand dunes, world-class sandstone rock crawling, desert technical trails, steep hills and challenging slick rock for use in Jeeps, ATVs, mountain bikes, motorcycles and more.

Visit a National Park site…or six. Not only is the Four Corners Region full of breathtaking sites, it's also a great basecamp for a National Park tour. Visitors can tap into their inner adventurer and explore the National parks, historic sites, monuments and trails around the area, including Aztec Ruins National Monument, Chaco Cultural National Historical Park, Mesa Verde National Park, Hovenweep National Monument, Canyon de Chelly National Monument, and Natural Bridges National Monument. Day trips in every direction make Farmington the perfect basecamp.

Take some time to truly unwind. For those who prefer to unwind outdoors, Farmington is home to hiking and biking trails for all levels, including beautiful river trails. For those whose idea of relaxation is accompanied by a glass of wine, a New Mexico wine tasting is on the agenda with Wines of San Juan or St. Clair Winery and Bistro.
