Six County Elected Officials Retire from the Board
CLOVIS, NM – New Mexico Counties (NMC) recognized six departing county elected officials for their outstanding leadership and dedication to NMC and the citizens of New Mexico at the NMC Board of Directors meeting during the 83rd Annual Conference in Curry County, Clovis, on Thursday, June 20, 2019. The Board members honored for their service include:
- Chaves County Clerk Dave Kunko
- Curry County Sheriff Wesley Waller
- San Miguel County Commissioner Janice Varela
- Sandoval County Commissioner David Heil
- Santa Fe County Clerk Geraldine Salazar
- Taos County Commissioner and a past Vice President Gabriel Romero
“We are very appreciative of the commitment and leadership exhibited by these outgoing board members,” said Steve Kopelman, NMC Executive Director. “They are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to their counties and to improving the quality of life for the residents of the state.”
Members of the NMC Board of Directors meet six times annually and attend numerous legislative hearings, public meetings, and set policy direction for NMC, which represents all 33 New Mexico counties.
The New Mexico Counties is a non-profit, nonpartisan association representing New Mexico’s 33 counties since 1936.
