New Mexico State University’s Global Campus will receive a $10.5 million legislative appropriation to continue the development of its innovative fully online programs.

The funding will support the expansion of NMSU Global Campus’ degree programs, non-credit microlearning courses, and skill-based workforce development initiatives.

“We are grateful to the Legislature for recognizing the importance of creating inclusive and accessible education regardless of geographic location, and for their continued support of NMSU Global,” said NMSU interim Chancellor Jay Gogue. “This funding will allow us to continue to grow and scale our competitive programs and initiatives that meet the evolving needs of our students and our state, while providing flexible, high-quality education to learners around the world.”

Global Campus has seen a significant increase in enrollment in the last two years, in large part due to the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship.

The scholarship has provided funding to undergraduate students who might not have otherwise been able to afford college, and has helped to create a more diverse and inclusive student body. That paired with the flexibility of earning a degree while working is the perfect match for adult learners, and for those who have some college credit and are trying to complete their degrees while working and supporting their families.

“The New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship has been instrumental in increasing enrollment at NMSU Global Campus,” said Sherry Kollmann, NMSU associate vice chancellor of digital learning.

The university has intentionally developed NMSU Global Campus as the local online leader in the state, providing New Mexico residents seeking an online education the option of receiving an in-state education versus the out-of-state option through mega-universities.

“In addition to tuition-free college for New Mexico residents, providing flexible, high-quality degree programs is key for making college accessible to more students and is essential to New Mexico’s ability to remain competitive in higher education. Between the Opportunity Scholarship and New Mexico State University’s Global Campus, our state is meeting students where they are and providing educational options that work for every kind of student,” said New Mexico Higher Education Secretary Stephanie M. Rodriguez.
