A Pulitzer-prize-nominated photographer, a seasoned venue manager, an oft-cited tour accountant and a tour director who got his start working for U2 are all slated to visit New Mexico State University this fall to speak with students and community members.


 
The talks are part of a popular event and venue management course offered through NMSU’s School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.


 
Barbara Hubbard, an entertainment industry veteran and longtime Aggie who teaches the course with HRTM Director Jean Hertzman, coordinated this year’s speaker series. Each talk is free, open to the public and will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Pan American Center’s Barbara Hubbard Room on NMSU’s Las Cruces campus.


 
“Most of our speakers are former NMSU graduates and ACTS scholarship recipients,” said Hubbard, who has mentored and provided scholarships to hundreds of students through her American Collegiate Talent Showcase, or ACTS, program.
 


“We are so honored that Barbara Hubbard’s entertainment industry connections allow us to bring such wonderful experts from a variety of industry segments to enhance our students’ learning and expose them to career opportunities they may have never thought about,” Hertzman said. “We hope members of the NMSU and Las Cruces communities will join us to share in this experience.”
 


Photojournalist Mike McLean will kick off the series Sept. 11. A former staff photographer for the Dallas Times Herald, McLean served on a reporting team that received a Pulitzer Prize nomination for its coverage of the deadly Delta Flight 191 crash in Dallas in 1985. McLean later became a freelance photographer in the music industry, covering concerts for MCA, Geffen and other labels. He currently works with the United States Military Academy at West Point and the United States Naval Academy, developing visual content.


 
Steve Camp, a retired venue manager and author, will visit Oct. 2. Camp spent 34 years working in public assembly venue management, organizational management, and sports, entertainment, meeting and convention event management. During his career, he opened two major arenas and two major convention centers. After retiring, he co-authored “Managing Public Assembly Venues: Sports, Entertainment, Meeting and Convention Venues,” a college textbook, industry resource and cross-training guide that is used in the HRTM class.


 
Tour accountant Michael Lorick will speak to the class Oct. 23. Lorick has served as a tour accountant for many music artists since 1995. He established Harbinger Management in 2014, providing ticketing, financial and business management consulting services for various touring artists and live music events. He also served nine Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members and has been referenced in Rolling Stone, the New York Times and numerous books. He studied marketing and accounting at NMSU from 1993 to 1995. 


 
Tour director Richard Glasgow will visit Nov. 13. Glasgow has served as the tour director for Phish since 1995, overseeing tour-routing, strategy, production, ticketing, personnel hirings, budgeting, accounting and contracting for the group. Before working with Phish, Glasgow was a tour accountant for several touring artists and got his start as assistant tour accountant for U2 in 1987. Originally from Santa Fe, he graduated from NMSU in 1986.
