johnny arellano rsJohnny D. Arellano, 75, a resident of Silver City NM entered eternal rest Sunday January 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his daughter and two nieces.

He was born in Santa Rita NM on May 21, 1942 to Pedro V. Arellano and Irene DeLuna Arellano.

A graduate of Cobre High School "Class of 62", he joined the US Navy the day after graduation in San Diego CA. While in the Navy he was a short order cook. (He had experience from being his mom's helper in several restaurants in Bayard, Hurley, and Silver City). He was aboard the USS CORAL SEA CVA-43. He was also a Golden Shellback as he crossed the equator at the 180th meridian (international dateline). He was a Vietnam Veteran, and proud to have served his country. While in the Navy he got to see and visit many places he never would have, had he not joined the Navy. One of those places was the Philippines where he met his future bride. After his service time came to an end he went back to marry his bride Nerrie Cabalang. With his bride in hand they made their home in Grant County NM. Shortly after they finally had a daughter, Irene. He worked for Kennecott/Chino mines at the Hurley smelter as a foreman. After he retired he worked part time at Wal-Mart as cheerful door greeter. Then he worked at Gila Regional in housekeeping.

He enjoyed cooking breakfast at family reunions and baking bread for the holidays, but his specialty was cinnamon rolls. He enjoyed listening to the oldies but goodies 60's, watching old western movies, fishing and camping. He enjoyed watching sports from WNMU football, basketball, volleyball and softball games with a bag of popcorn a hot dog and a diet coke in hand. As well as high school sports especially Cobre girls' basketball and softball.

Last but not least he enjoyed spending every moment with his fur-grand-babies Frankie, Rosie, Booboo, Sammi and Dallas and of course his daughter Reenie! He was a man with Integrity, kind hearted and sincere always had a smile to share. He worked very hard all his life to support his family, so they wouldn't be without. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by one daughter, Irene, nieces, many cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Nerrie and his brother Tudy Arellano.

A graveside service with full military honors will be celebrated on Friday, January 12 at 1 pm at Fort Bayard National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife.
