Flores 04Francisco V. Flores, 94, a resident of Hanover, NM went to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, September 20, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.  Francisco, “Quico” as he was known to his family and friends, was born on March 14, 1924 in Shakespeare, NM. Work brought him to Santa Rita, NM where he began his career at Kennecott Chino Mines as Trackman and as a Diamond Driller.

Amidst WWII, Quico was drafted into the United States Navy on May 2, 1944. During that time, he fought overseas and received the following medals: WWII Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and the Navy and the Marine Corps Commendation Medal.  Quico was Honorably Discharged on February 6, 1946 and returned home to Santa Rita. He continued to work at Kennecott, Chino Mine where he was a truck driver and retired from Kennecott in 1986 after 44 years of service.

On July 8, 1950 Quico married the love of his life, Alicia M. Castro and stayed by her side for 68 years until the day of earthly departure.  Quico and Alicia had 10 children together and always put their family first. Besides spending time with his family, Quico enjoyed long walks, playing baseball, watching old western movies, cutting firewood, and watching his favorite show, The Price Is Right.

Quico was a devout Catholic and spent a lot of time in prayer and silence. He is survived by his loving wife, Alicia C. “Licha” Flores, his brother, Monce Flores, sister Rosemary Alvarado, and Anita Marquez; his children, Frances, Merced and (Melanie), Tillie, Patsy and (Lawrence), Nick and (Liz), Jeanna and (Robert), Frank and (Mary), Grace and (Cali) Roxane and (Jerry), Roy and (Deseree), and Michelle (adopted); his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren.  Quico was preceded in death by his mother, Librada Stevenson, his father Aurelio Flores, his brothers, Lencho and Luis Flores, and his sister, Margaret Welk.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 26 at Terrazas Funeral Chapels from 5-6pm with the holy rosary to be recited at 6pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, September 27 at 11:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Father Abraham Solis officiating. Concluding service and interment will follow with full military honors at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Merced Flores, Nick Flores, Frank Flores, Roy Flores, Mark Flores, and Gabriel Flores. Honorary pallbearers will be all his grandsons.
