JacquezAArmando O. Jacquez passed peacefully from his life on September 26 in El Paso, Texas, surrounded by family.  Our loving dad, Grampy, and Compa. He was born and raised in Silver City, New Mexico on July 15, 1950 to his parents, Santiago and Maria (Ortega) Jacquez in Silver City, New Mexico. 

Mando joined the US Army at a young age and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning, he worked as an underground miner, then as a foreman for the town of Silver city, where he retired after 25 years. He met and married his “Hun” Norma Montes in 1974 and was married 45 years before he widowed. In Mando’s early years, he was best known for his arm wrestling, bearhugs, and such eagerness to show off his fighting skills. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and his Friday night socializing, and singing. As he got older, his Friday nights, turned into early Friday breakfast club with his brothers and close friends. He enjoyed watching his “westerns” and listening to music. Mando will be remembered for his strength, the size of his hands and his willingness to give you the shirt off his back. He adored his grandkids and loved his daughters and siblings. He will be greatly missed.

 He is survived by his four daughters, Mary Jane Chavira (Oscar) of Los Lunas, NM, Amanda Chavez (John) of Arenas Valley, NM, Andrea Jacquez (Companion-Danny Ray Teran) of Silver City, NM, Annette Verovich (Anthony) of Silver City, NM; his two brothers, Rudy Jacquez (Betty) of Silver City, NM, Fidel Jacquez (Companion-Alice) of Silver City, NM; his three sisters, Lupe Barragan of Silver City, NM, Mary Ann Ortiz of Silver City, NM, Alicia Carrasco (Frankie) of Silver City, NM; his eleven grandchildren, Nicole Cornoado, Antonio Chavira, Azulin Zavala, Oscar Chavira Jr., Briana Chavez, Santana Teran, Marcos Teran, Aiden, Aaliyah Verovich, Anthony Verovich III, Armando Verovich; his fifteen great-grandchildren; his numerous nieces, nephews “and Marcella & Joey Arellano”; Russ and Lupe Provencio, who he loved like a brother and sister.   He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Norma (Montes) Jacquez; his four brothers, Tony Jacquez, Jimmy Jacquez, Robert Jacquez, Roland Jacquez; his five sisters, Priscilla Gomez, Molly Altamirano, Delia Garcia, Rachel Montes, Rita Provencio; his two brother-in-laws, Richard Barragan and Pete Ortiz. 

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at 5:00pm-6:00pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the Holy Rosary commencing at 6:00pm with Deacon Art Gutierrez reciting.  The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Francis Newman Center, with Father Bartholomew Ezenwelem officiating.  The Inurnment will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11:00am at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with Full Military Honors where he will be laid to rest next to his love, Norma.  Pallbearers: Eric Jacquez, Matthew Arellano, Oscar Chavira Jr. Antonio Chavira, Rigoberto Rodriguez, Jack Barragan, Shawn Carrasco, Rudy Garcia, Emilio Gomez, and Anthony Verovich III. Honorary pallbearers are his closest friends and loved ones.
