2017 rotary auction and gala rsThe October 7 Gala and Benefit Auction by the Silver City Rotary Club in partnership with First American Bank will present more than $50,000 worth of goods and services. Items will range from jewelry to furniture, electronics, trips, and cruises, and even a vintage 1981 Porsche 928.

The Silver City Art Association's Red Hot-Red Dot ArtFest kicks off this weekend with a week of exciting events for fun and – "Just for the Art of It" happenings! The Independent Artists Exhibit is already hanging at the visitor center and will be available for viewing daily through October 10. Stop by the visitor center first thing, check out the exhibit and pick up brochures and maps for the ArtFest. While you are there, you can also sign up for a chance to win a $75 gift certificate that can be used at SCAA member galleries! Red Dots will help you find your way!

red hot 1 rsSpecial shows at the Pinos Altos Art Gallery draw those wanting to sample the work of local artists and crafters. Touring the historic Hearst Church where the gallery is located is a bonus for history buffs.The Grant County Art Guild is a member of the Silver City Art Association and is joining in the spirit of the Red Dot festivities. The Guild will end their season at the Pinos Altos Art Gallery with the Red Dot Art Show, opening October 6, and mark-downs on many of their members' original fine art as well as beautiful works from our Guild crafters! When you visit their gallery the next two weekends, look for the tags with the red dots and you have the possibility of finding just what you are looking for or something for the coming season of gifting, and with the prices slashed.

On Saturday, October 14, the Silver City Shroud of Turin Society will once again host the Shroud of Turin Presentation at the Grant County Veterans Memorial Business and Conference Center. This will be the last time that we will have this fascinating exhibit and lecture. We will have both Barrie Schwortz, official documenting photograper from the 1978 STURP (Shroud of Turin Research Project), and Peter Schumacher, VP-8 production engineer and owner of the international Shroud Museum in Alamogordo, NM.

The exhibit features Mr. Schwortz's 14-ft. life-size photograph of the Shroud of Turin, plus several 3-D pictures, which are the work of Dr. Petrus Soons. The exhibit will be free and open to the public all day at the Conference Center.

At 6 pm in the evening, Mr. Schwortz will give a lecture entitled "New Mexcio and the Scientific Examination of the Shroud of Turin," with a question and answer session following the lecture.

at Western New Mexico University on Saturday, October 7.
Silver City, NM – Western New Mexico University is bringing the American style of Taiko Japanese drumming to Grant County on Saturday, October 7, 2017. The TAIKOPROJECT All-Stars will perform in the Fine Arts Center Theatre at 7:00 p.m.
