This weekend, the Silver High School Class of 1976 celebrates our 50th reunion. We do not simply reminisce but celebrate one another and the community that helped shape us.
Fifty years ago, the SHS bicentennial senior class left high school as Fighting Colts, carrying with us the lessons we learned in our classrooms, on athletic fields, in music rooms, and through the example of parents, teachers, neighbors, and friends. Those lessons proved to be a solid foundation.
Our classmates have taken many different paths. Some built businesses, negotiated major corporate agreements, served their communities, educated young people, worked the land, cared for patients, served in the military, and raised families. Many have traveled the world. Others stayed closer to home. Not every journey has been easy. We have known both triumph and hardship, joy and loss. Yet our class has shown resilience, determination, and gratitude.
As we gather this weekend, we also celebrate Silver City and Grant County. This remarkable community gave us an education, instilled values of hard work and service, and encouraged us to believe that no dream was beyond our reach.
To everyone who invested in us so many years ago, thank you. We are proud to be Fighting Colts, proud to call Silver City home, and grateful for the place that helped prepare us for life.
