The SCAA Red Dot Studio Tour returns Labor Day Weekend with more studios and an additional day! The Silver City Art Association is thrilled to have 27 member studios open for the Studio Tour. With the addition of eight more studios this year, it was decided to add one more optional day on Labor Day Monday. The Studio Tour has become an annual Labor Day event offering a rare glimpse into otherwise private studios.
The diverse group of SCAA Studio members create their art using materials like steel, wood, fiber, clay, wax, pigments, found objects and utilize processes like digital and conventional photography. They work in dedicated studio spaces throughout Grant County. These eclectic spaces offer solitude, inspiration, creativity, a retreat, and a place to truly focus. During the Red Dot Studio Tour, you are invited to see how and where these artists create!

The Gila Native Plant Society (GNPS) is calling on gardeners to come to its annual native plant sale on Saturday, August 8, 2026. It will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in the parking lot on the corner of 12th and Pope Streets across from Gough Park in Silver City. Native plant vendors from New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado will be selling a wide variety of native trees, shrubs, perennial flowers, and cacti. Purchasers can select the plants they want and discuss their placement and care with native plant growers. Some vendors may take cash or checks only, so buyers should come prepared. The sale is open to all.
Why plant native plants? They are adapted to the conditions of our area‒ its soils, sunshine, and moisture levels‒and are more drought-tolerant than most non-natives. Native plants have long-standing relationships with native pollinators, birds, and other wildlife, for which they provide food and shelter. And they are beautiful. To see what some mature native plants look like, take a stroll through the Silva Creek Botanical Garden, developed and maintained by GNPS, on Virginia Street, two blocks north of Highway 180 in Silver City.

Our theme, Under the Harvest Moon, represents the symbol of abundance, gratitude, and community. Traditionally associated with the gathering of the harvest, this special evening reflects The Commons' mission to cultivate food security, self-sufficiency, and sustainability in Grant County. As we gather in the garden, we celebrate the shared work of nourishing our community and creating a more resilient future together.
Join the volunteers and vendors at the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site on August 1st and 2nd to celebrate and learn about the lives and habits of these energetic little flying jewels, the magnificent hummingbirds of our area. We'll have food, booths, children's activities, tours of the Mimbres archaeological site and museum, and more.
Starting around 7:30 - 8:00 am, ornithologist Bill Talbot and helpers will be capturing, examining, recording, banding and releasing hummers early in the day. This is always an exciting time, especially if the little gem is placed in your hands for release.
