Peirspictiochtai Ar An Saol
Zero-Based News
Part Five
This news series continues by detailing additional types of journalists, with each type having a different function.
A researcher is an individual that delves deeply into a subject. This is usually someone who is able to gather information from a variety of sources and then puts that information into a format useable by readers, viewers, and listeners. The information is typically objective news content.
A satirist may take news content to a logical or illogical conclusion using satire. This news content may utilize objective and/or subjective information. The news content produced by a satirist is typically identified as satire to separate it from other types of news content. Not all consider a satirist to be a journalist.
A science/medical writer prepares news content that is focused, of course, on science and medical topics. Typically, this individual has expertise in one or more scientific and medical subjects and can translate scientific and medical language into wording that the average reader, listener, and/or viewer would be able to understand.
A social media influencer is someone who presents news content in a digital format. This individual may or may not be paid by businesses, organizations, or other entities to encourage or discourage others from utilizing specific products and/or services. The news content is typically not objective in tone, but may appear as such to those consuming this type of news content.
A sports writer prepares news content that focuses on, of course, sports. While some of the news content may be objective, other news content is more subjective in nature. Some sports writers may appear to be more like cheerleaders for home sports teams. Wording such as "we" won this game, "we" lost a close one, or "we" are playing a game may be used by sports writers to showcase their commitments to local sports teams.
A weather reporter prepares news content detailing current, past, and future weather conditions. In some cases, a weather reporter may have advanced educational credentials as a meteorologist. The news content detailing past weather conditions typically is objective, news content about current weather conditions may be objective or be based on projections, and news content about future weather conditions is usually based on projections. While most weather reporters simply state what the weather conditions will be in the future, some weather reporters will provide their projections based on percentages of probabilities.
The next news column in this series will focus on the types of formats utilized in journalism.
Peirspictiochtai Ar An Saol – Gaelic – Irish – for "Perspectives On Life" is a column focused on aspects of accountability and responsibility as well as ways people look at life.
