Albuquerque – Energy was a big part of the conversation today as thousands of New Mexicans greeted former President Donald Trump during a campaign stop in Albuquerque. As the second largest producer of oil in the United States, and with energy revenue making up around 35 percent of the state budget, the issue is front and center for the Land of Enchantment. In response, Larry Behrens, Communications Director for Power The Future, issued the following statement:
“The anti-energy agenda pushed by Kamala Harris and her allies in Santa Fe will devastate New Mexico, that’s why she has yet to set foot in the state since her selection as nominee. Instead of taking the state’s working families and their votes for granted, President Trump knows we need New Mexico’s energy to power our country into the future.”
In January, Power The Future commissioned a poll of New Mexicans and found they strongly oppose the anti-energy actions brought by Vice President Harris and supported in Santa Fe. Specifically:
-
59 percent oppose electric vehicle mandates
-
66 percent of the state opposes efforts to phase out oil and natural gas
-
60 percent don’t want to buy an electric car
-
67 percent, including 50 percent of Democrats, believe EV mandates will cost them more in the long run
Power The Future is a 501c4 non-profit dedicated to fighting for American energy workers.
