Washington, D.C. - The recent drop in oil prices to the lowest level in four years presents a pivotal opportunity for the United States to begin refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR.) The current level of the SPR is only about 55 percent full after former President Joe Biden drained it more than any other president in history.

“This drop in oil prices is not only potential good news for Americans at the pump, it also provides a window to strengthen our national energy security,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. “Joe Biden left America weaker by not refilling the SPR, but today’s prices provide an opportunity to fix yet another one of his failures. The SPR can now be refilled while giving taxpayers a break and it can be purchased tariff-free because we’ll use all American-made energy. ”

During the Biden Administration, the SPR was drained by more than 180 million barrels in just 2022 alone. Afterwards, they stated they would refill the SPR when oil prices dropped between $67 and $72 a barrel, but never kept their word.
